Where could Kristen be? Cory has grappled with this question daily ever since her daughter went missing from Spring in 2019. The circumstances surrounding Kristen’s disappearance unveiled a chilling truth: she might have become a victim of human trafficking. She was discovered on the Bissonnet Track, a notorious area for prostitution and human trafficking.
Despite Cory’s vigilant efforts as a mother, Kristen’s innocence was shattered, leaving behind a mere shadow of the lively girl she once was. Cory reminisced about Kristen’s past as a Girl Scout and honor roll student, to her current therapy and psychiatry sessions. She had undergone a profound transformation. Cory recounted the heart-wrenching image of Kristen huddled on the floor, trembling with fear, as she recounted the traffickers’ threats to harm her family if she didn’t comply.
“Kristin began therapy, and there are scarce resources for child victims of human trafficking. It’s appalling. And, truthfully, I wasn’t even aware that human trafficking existed. I thought it only occurred in impoverished nations. Selling a child is a whole new level of malevolence. And she’s not a prostitute; she can’t give consent, she’s only 15,” Cory expressed. “There are a few facilities for victims, but they charge approximately $1,000 a week. So we opted for therapy. I was there every day, even spent the night. Kristen kept waking up with nightmares, convinced they were going to end her life.”
Sadly, a few weeks later, on January 2, 2020, Kristen disappeared once more, plunging her family into a frantic quest for answers.
Her unwavering pursuit for Kristen’s safe return led Cory to embark on a resolute mission to untangle the intricate webs of deceit and exploitation that had ensnared her daughter.
