Sci-Tech Shooting Update: Suspect Chantz Dudley Surrenders; Father and Accomplice Also Arrested
The Springfield community was shaken by a disturbing incident that unfolded at the High School of Science and Technology (Sci-Tech) in March, culminating in a shooting that left residents reeling. On Tuesday, Chantz Dudley, a key suspect wanted in connection with the shooting, surrendered himself to authorities, shedding light on the events that transpired.
According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, the 20-year-old Hartford native allegedly forcibly entered Sci-Tech armed with a firearm on March 11th. Reports indicate that Dudley assaulted the victim, striking them in the head with the weapon before discharging a single shot through a window, heightening tensions within the school.
This isn’t Dudley’s first brush with the law concerning firearms. He was previously out on bail for a separate firearm charge stemming from an incident at the former Eastfield Mall back in September 2022. The gravity of his alleged offenses prompted Springfield police to issue an extensive arrest warrant, encompassing charges ranging from armed breaking and entering to assault with a dangerous weapon.
During their investigation, authorities uncovered a disturbing nexus of individuals involved in the altercation at Sci-Tech. Dudley’s father, Dana Dudley of Chicopee, along with 22-year-old Josiah Livingston of Hartford and a juvenile female student, were implicated in the incident. Allegedly, they attempted to gain entry to the school after being instructed to leave by a teacher, with one of the suspects brandishing a firearm, exacerbating the situation.
Dana Dudley, arrested on March 19th, faced charges including carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds and armed breaking and entering, among others. Meanwhile, Livingston, apprehended within the school premises, was charged with assault and battery, alongside armed breaking and entering.
As Chantz Dudley appeared in court on Tuesday, the community grappled with the gravity of the charges against him and his alleged accomplices. With Dudley held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, Springfield residents await further developments, hopeful for justice and resolution in the aftermath of this disturbing incident.
