Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University (FSU) community is mourning the sudden passing of Assistant Professor John Crawley, who was announced dead last night. John, a resident of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly, and the circumstances of his death are unknown. While there have been comments on social media, the cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Fitchburg State University Police expressed their sadness at the news, saying, “Our deepest condolences to John’s family, friends, and colleagues.” The university community is in shock, and thoughts and prayers are with John’s family during this difficult time.
John Crawley was a highly experienced and respected member of the FSU faculty. During his 34-year high technology career, he held senior management and legal positions with regional, national, and international responsibilities at Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq Computers, and Hewlett Packard (HP). His highest-ranking position was Chief Contracts/Procurement Counsel for the Services Division of HP.
In addition to his impressive industry experience, John was a dedicated educator. He held adjunct professorships at Clark University (18 years), Assumption College (10 years), and Fitchburg State University (14 years) before accepting a full-time position as a professor at FSU. He began his collegiate teaching career in 1989, after receiving his Juris Doctor degree and passing the Massachusetts Bar Examination.
John’s teaching philosophy was centered around enhancing students’ ability to make sound business and personal decisions by exposing them to critical legal, ethical, and business issues. He instructed several courses, including MGMT 9070: Legal Issues in Human Resources Management, MGMT 9040: Organizational Behavior and Development, and MGMT 9251: Policy, Legal, and Ethical Issues, all of which were taught online.
John’s sudden passing has left a void in the FSU community, and he will be deeply missed by his students, colleagues, and friends. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the lessons he taught.
