The Las Vegas Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place at the Las Vegas Athletic Club on Maryland Parkway near Sahara Avenue. One person has been taken to the hospital with injuries, although the severity of the injuries is not yet known. The police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 11:30 a.m. and were still on the scene at 2 p.m. The investigation is ongoing, and the public is advised to avoid the area.

The Las Vegas Athletic Club is a popular fitness center in central Las Vegas. In January 2022, a similar incident occurred when a person was shot inside the club. The police were called to the scene at 11:29 a.m., and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police investigation into the 2022 shooting revealed that the victim was shot in the leg. The police were unable to determine a motive for the shooting, and no further information was released. The gym was closed for several hours while the police investigated the scene but was reopened later in the day.

The Las Vegas Police Department is no stranger to investigating shootings. In October 2017, a mass shooting took place at the Route 91 Harvest music festival, leaving 58 people dead and hundreds injured. The police investigation into the shooting was unable to determine a motive, although it was revealed that the shooter, Stephen Paddock, had made several lodging reservations in cities that were hosting open-air music festivals in the months leading up to the shooting.

Paddock also conducted internet searches indicating he was preparing for the shooting, including open-air concert venues, Las Vegas SWAT tactics, weapons and explosives. He purchased more than 55 weapons between October 2016 and September 2017, most of which were rifles of various calibers.

The police investigation also revealed that Paddock’s liquid wealth declined before the shooting. His bank accounts totaled over $2 million in September 2015 but dropped to just over $500,000 in September 2017. The police believe that his diminished wealth may have been a contributing factor in the shooting.

The police have been praised for their quick response to the shooting. The first police officers arrived on the scene at 10:08 p.m., and the shooter was dead by 10:38 p.m. The police investigation into the shooting was one of the largest and most complex in U.S. history, involving hundreds of officers and agents from multiple agencies.

The police department has also been criticized for its handling of the shooting. In 2018, the police released a report on the shooting, which was heavily criticized for its lack of transparency and failure to provide a clear motive for the shooting. The police department has also faced criticism for its handling of the victims’ families, with some families claiming they were not provided with adequate support and information in the aftermath of the shooting.
