Anthony Williams Found Guilty of Murder and Attempted Murder Charges in 2020 Greyhound Bus Shooting, Faces 100 Years to Life in Prison”.

Anthony Williams, the man accused of opening fire on a Greyhound bus in 2020, has been found guilty of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder. A Kern County jury delivered the verdict on April 17, 2024, and additionally found Williams to be legally sane at the time of the shooting.

The incident occurred on February 3, 2020, when Williams and approximately 40 other passengers boarded a Greyhound bus in Los Angeles bound for Oakland. During the journey, Williams became angry with another passenger and pulled out a fully loaded semi-automatic gun, pointing it at his intended target and then at several other unsuspecting passengers.

The bus was traveling along Interstate 5 near Fort Tejon Road when Williams opened fire, missing his intended target due to the movement of the bus but striking six other passengers. The driver pulled over, and Williams exited the bus, where he was taken into custody without incident.

The Kern County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, and the jury’s finding of legal sanity means Williams will serve his sentence in the California Department of Corrections rather than a mental hospital. Williams faces a sentence of 100 years to life in prison.

The victims and their families can finally find some closure after the traumatic event, and the community can feel safer knowing that justice has been served.

The case serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
