A third person has been arrested in connection with the tragic shooting death of 3-year-old Kyron Zarco in Athens, Georgia. Desmontrez Mathis was taken into custody on Thursday in Augusta during a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement operation, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Mathis joins 16-year-old Jayden Brown and 17-year-old Julian Cubillos, who were arrested in March and charged with four counts of aggravated assault, malice murder, felony murder, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The three suspects face the same charges in connection with the shooting that claimed the life of young Kyron.

The shooting occurred on March 8 at the Hallmark Mobile Home Park on Spring Valley Road in Athens, leaving another child injured but expected to survive. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has been working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice, with the latest arrest marking a significant step forward in the investigation.

The police are still seeking the fourth suspect, identified as 18-year-old Dakious Echols, who is wanted in connection with the shooting.
