Glenbrook Square Mall evacuated after reports of shooting
Glenbrook Mall in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was closed for the remainder of Saturday after a shooting incident occurred inside the building. According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, a man shot at another man, and the initial 911 calls were made just before 3:30 p.m. Callers reported hearing three to four shots and informed dispatchers that one person may have been shot.
Upon investigation, police located one victim who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim is currently in stable condition. Witnesses reported that the shooter was seen running out of the Barnes & Noble entrance before officers arrived.
During a press briefing, an FWPD spokesman revealed that the suspect had come forward and turned himself in. The suspect had called 911, requesting to turn himself in and speak with detectives. However, as of the latest update, the identified shooter has yet to make contact with the police.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, this was not a random incident where a shooter entered the mall and started firing randomly. Instead, police believe that some sort of altercation between the two parties led to the shots being fired. They have assured the public that there is no current danger and that the mall will remain closed for the remainder of Saturday. Glenbrook Mall is scheduled to reopen for regular business hours on Sunday.
A witness who was in the food court at the time of the incident shared their experience, stating that they heard what they thought was a gunshot but were initially unsure if it was just a loud bang. The witness described the ensuing panic, with people starting to run out of the mall. An officer assisted the witness and her husband in exiting the mall through the nearest exit.
The incident is currently under investigation, and the police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The public is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.
