63-year-old John Latham and his passenger 73-year-old Niiben Ayivorh killed in Fluvanna County plane crash
The identities of the two individuals who perished in a plane crash on Sunday morning in Fluvanna County have been disclosed. “Virginia State Police were notified of a plane crash in Fluvanna County,” stated the authorities.
“Debris from the small, privately-owned aircraft was discovered in a wooded area along the 200 block of Miles Jackson Road in Palmyra,” added Virginia State Police.
“The impact of the crash resulted in parts of the aircraft catching fire.”
The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. State police verified that both occupants, comprising the pilot and the passenger of the twin-engine aircraft, succumbed to the crash.
By Monday morning, the individuals involved were named as John W. Latham, aged 63, from Haymarket, Va., and Niiben C.A. Ayivorh, aged 73, from Burke, Va.
According to state police, Latham served as the pilot, while Ayivorh was the passenger.
The victims were conveyed to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for further investigation and autopsy procedures.
The Kents Store Volunteer Fire Company issued a cautionary advisory urging residents residing in the vicinity of Courthouse Road, Oak Creek Road, and Miles Jackson Road to refrain from handling or disturbing any wreckage they may encounter.
The fire company issued a statement on Sunday advising residents in the vicinity of the plane crash area to promptly notify the sheriff’s office upon discovering any wreckage and to avoid disturbing it.
The aircraft departed from Manassas Regional Airport earlier that morning, en route to South Carolina. Virginia State Police reported light rain during the time of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been informed of the incident.
