According to authorities, Hooser and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper arrived at the scene shortly before 6:30 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop. However, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Michael Aaron Jayne, reversed the truck in the wrong direction, resulting in a collision that claimed Hooser’s life and damaged both patrol vehicles.

Jayne, who has a history of criminal activity, fled the scene on foot and later stole a white Ford truck. A shelter-in-place order was issued for several cities as law enforcement agencies launched a massive search for the suspect. The pursuit ended in the Vernal area, where Jayne crashed the stolen truck and was apprehended by authorities.
