Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Shooting on Roosevelt Boulevard; Demeshia Gainer, 32, Killed in Early Morning Incident; Isaiah Hawkins, 33, Arrested and Charged with Murder
Tragedy struck the Jacksonville community on Saturday, May 4, 2024, when a fatal shooting occurred in the 4200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard. Patrol Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m. and found the victim, Demeshia Gainer, 32, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue department pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Detectives with JSO’s Homicide Unit and members of the Crime Scene Unit were promptly contacted and responded to conduct their respective investigations.
During the investigation, a person of interest was developed, identified as Isaiah Hawkins, 33. Hawkins was located on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, during a traffic stop and transported to the Police Memorial Building for an interview.
After a thorough interview with Homicide Detectives, Hawkins was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Demeshia Gainer.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is committed to investigating this senseless act of violence and ensuring justice for the victim and her loved ones.
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding the shooting.

Isaiah Hawkins is currently being held at the Duval County Jail, charged with murder.
