Nicole Pelton, a 52-year-old teacher at Ross Middle School, lost her life in a devastating wrong-way collision on Sunday night in West Chester, Ohio. The accident occurred around 6 p.m. on Cox Road near Service Center Drive, halting traffic for hours as an investigation was conducted.
Nicole and her husband, Patrick Pelton, were two of the three fatalities in the crash. The Butler County Coroner’s Office identified the third victim as 65-year-old Gregory Meyer of Middletown, who was driving the wrong way before the collision.
Nicole spent 22 remarkable years teaching at Ross Middle School, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and colleagues. According to the Ross Local School District, “Mrs. Pelton was more than just a teacher; she was a ray of sunshine in our school, passionate about spreading her enthusiasm for science.”
Her colleagues described Nicole as having a special gift for igniting her students’ interest and excitement in science, making learning enjoyable and interactive. In an email to district families, the school announced that counselors would be available at the middle school on Tuesday from 12 to 2 p.m. to support staff and students affected by the tragedy. The district schools were closed on Tuesday for conference exchange day, but the middle school was open for those seeking support.
