Sonia Rajiv Kinkhabwala, a bright and dedicated Mobile Facilitator at StoryCorps, sadly passed away in December 2023 due to complications from a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Her untimely departure has left a void in the lives of her loved ones, colleagues, and the countless individuals she touched through her work.
A New York City and New Jersey resident, Sonia was a passionate advocate for storytelling as a means of fostering empathy and connection. As a Mobile Facilitator, she played a crucial role in preparing participants for meaningful conversations with loved ones, friends, and community members.
Sonia’s journey with StoryCorps began with an internship and part-time role, which eventually led to her excitement to serve as a Facilitator with the Mobile Team. Her responsibilities included conducting confirmation calls and technology checks, collaborating with community partners, and creating a safe space for individuals from all walks of life to share their stories.
A graduate of The College of William & Mary, Sonia studied Sociology and Management and Organizational Leadership, which deepened her interest and practice in community partnership and facilitated storytelling. Her experience with the Day One podcast further honed her skills in harnessing the power of storytelling to build connections and empathy.
