Obituary, Death Merton Llewellyn Larrabee, 87, of West Gardiner, Maine, Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Passes Away on February 24, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Love, Family, and Adventure; Memorial Service to be Held on May 17 at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner

Merton Llewellyn Larrabee, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 24, 2024, at the age of 87. He was a resident of West Gardiner, Maine, and is survived by his three children, Gary Larrabee and wife Brenda of West Gardiner, Linda Cooley and husband Richard of Milford, New Hampshire, and Timothy Larrabee and wife Line of West Gardiner.

Merton was born to Llewellyn Larrabee and Mary Dunville Larrabee Patenaude and was the eldest son of six siblings. He is survived by his sister Edna Haskell and husband Larry of Randolph, Maine, and brothers William “Bill” Larrabee and wife Judy of Brunswick, Maine, and Everette “Iggy” Larrabee and wife Barbara of Mansfield, Ohio.

Merton was predeceased by his wife Nancy, sister Ann McLaughlin Greenleaf, and brother Thomas Larrabee. He was a devoted husband and father, and his family was the center of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of their annual camping trips to Salisbury Beach.

In his later years, Merton was a member of the senior camping group and enjoyed many wonderful camping weekends and trips with his companion Judy Nichols. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR racing.

Merton’s family was his pride and joy, and he was a patriarch in every sense of the word. His absence will be deeply felt by his family and all those who knew him.

Despite his passing, Merton’s family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his wife Nancy and is no longer in any discomfort.

A memorial visitation will be held from 12-1 pm on Friday, May 17, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, followed by a service. A brief committal service will follow at the Fairbanks Cemetery in West Gardiner.

Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website.

In conclusion, Merton Llewellyn Larrabee was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him. His legacy of love, family, and adventure will live on through the many lives he touched.
