His untimely death has left a void in the lives of his family, friends, and the medical community. Dr. Coletta, affectionately known as Tony, was a resident of Radnor, Pennsylvania, and his passing has sent shockwaves throughout the region.
Dr. Coletta was a highly skilled and caring surgeon who dedicated his life to helping others. He spent years leading surgical teams in Haiti, providing much-needed medical care to those in need. His selflessness and compassion earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and patients alike. In 2023, he played a pivotal role in forging a partnership with Serving at the Crossroads, bringing a surgical team to the Manos Amigas Clinic.
Dr. Coletta’s journey in medicine began at a young age. He would often accompany his father, a pathologist, to the hospital and was inspired by the work of medical professionals. He pursued his dream of becoming a doctor by studying at Georgetown University, followed by medical school and residency at Thomas Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Coletta joined the medical staff at Bryn Mawr Hospital, where he made significant contributions to the field of healthcare in the Philadelphia area.
Dr. Coletta was a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery, a type of surgery that minimizes patient discomfort. In 1990, he performed the first laparoscopic removal of an appendix and colon in the Philadelphia area. His expertise and dedication earned him recognition as one of the best doctors in the area by Philly Magazine in 2009.
After 25 years of service as a surgeon, Dr. Coletta decided to explore other aspects of his life. He obtained an Executive MBA from Fox School and took on the role of chief medical officer and executive vice president at Holy Redeemer. In 2013, he joined Independence Blue Cross, where he played a crucial role in building Tandigm Health, now a fully owned part of Independence. Dr. Coletta’s vision for the future of healthcare was centered around providing care at the right time, by the right doctors, and at the right price.
Throughout his life, Dr. Coletta remained committed to giving back to his community. He donated his time and resources to various causes, and his family has established the Coletta Family Scholarship Fund at Fox School, a business school that he credited with changing his life.
Dr. Coletta’s passing has left a profound impact on those who knew him. His family, friends, and colleagues will deeply miss his kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his work. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Blue Sky Surgical, a testament to Dr. Coletta’s commitment to the organization and its mission. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John Neumann Church, followed by a Mass from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
