Although he never attended college, John was a devoted supporter of the University of Kentucky athletics team, much to his wife’s dismay.
John’s remarkable work ethic began as a bag boy at a local grocery store. At just 26 years old, he acquired The Back Door, a neighborhood pub in the Louisville Highlands, which he transformed into a renowned full-service bar restaurant over 36 years. John was a kind, jovial, and generous boss, beloved by his staff and customers. He was a passionate supporter of animal rescue and the arts, sponsoring numerous fundraising events and generously giving his time and talent.
