Frank Heijmans Obituary and Death: Long-time St. Michael’s College School teacher and coach has died May 15, 2024

Frank Heijmans of Toronto, Ontario has sadly passed away. He died on Friday, May 10, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. He was announced dead on Tuesday through a post made by the school on Facebook that reads “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long-time teacher, coach, and friend Mr. Frank Heijmans on May 10, 2024”.

The St. Michael’s College School community mourns the loss of one of its most beloved educators, Mr. Frank Heijmans, who passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024. Mr. Heijmans was not only a teacher but also a coach, mentor, and friend to many within the school.

He embarked on a remarkable journey of academic and professional achievement. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science with a focus on Chemical Engineering from The University of Western Ontario. Driven by his thirst for knowledge and a desire to inspire young minds, he furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Toronto and a Master’s in Applied Science from the University of British Columbia.

In 2010, Mr. Heijmans joined the faculty at St. Michael’s College School, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. He assumed the role of Head of the Science and Technological Design department, where his dedication to teaching and his innovative approach to education left an indelible mark on countless students.

His classrooms were not just spaces for instruction; they were laboratories of curiosity and exploration where students were encouraged to question, experiment, and grow. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Heijmans was deeply involved in the extracurricular life of the school.

As the moderator of the Vex Robotics Club, he inspired students to delve into the exciting world of robotics, fostering teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills. His guidance propelled the club to numerous successes, and his unwavering support empowered students to reach new heights of achievement.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Heijmans was also known for his passion for sports. As the U14 soccer coach, he instilled in his players not only the importance of skill and strategy but also the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and camaraderie.

His coaching went beyond the field, teaching valuable life lessons that extended far beyond the game. Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Heijmans had a successful tenure in the chemical and plastics industry.

His roles as a research scientist, sales representative, and market and product development specialist provided him with a breadth of experience that he brought into his classroom, enriching the learning experiences of his students and preparing them for the challenges of the real world.

The actual cause of what led to Frank Heijmans’ death has not been released. Heijmans was a dedicated and passionate educator, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and inspired.

He will be deeply missed by his students, colleagues, and the entire St. Michael’s College School community. May he rest in peace.
