A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday when a pedestrian, identified as 18-year-old Jason Rivera Peinado from Gresham, was struck by a semi-truck on Highway 205 in Clark County.

Rivera Peinado had parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the road and was walking onto the roadway when the accident occurred. He was transported to the hospital for medical attention. The driver of the semi-truck, 60-year-old Martin Gorton from Vancouver, was unharmed and is facing charges.

The Washington State Patrol reported that the accident was not caused by alcohol or drugs. In a separate incident, a dump truck and trailer carrying treated human waste overturned on Interstate 5, north of the Interstate 205 intersection in Salmon Creek, Washington.

The accident caused miles-long traffic jams and closed highways in both directions. One lane of southbound I-5 was open, while the inner northbound lane was blocked by crews. The dump truck driver was unable to come to a safe stop quickly enough due to a pedestrian strolling on one of the southbound lanes of I-5.

The treated human waste from a Cowlitz County plant was spilled onto the road and rolled onto the barrier and into the northbound lanes. The driver of the dump truck was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
