A 64-year-old man from Centerville faces three counts of First Degree Murder for the fatal shootings of three individuals in Centerville on Monday night.

Jay Ostrem is currently detained in the Minnehaha County Jail with a $1 million cash-only bond, as reported by the South Dakota Office of the Attorney General.

Ostrem has a history of serving as the mayor of Centerville and was once in law enforcement, although his certification lapsed in 2016.

The identities of the three victims will be disclosed once their families have been informed.

Incident happened somewhere on the 1000 block of Main Street. The entire area southwest of that intersection is closed off by police.

Both Centerville police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies are on site, with the Sheriff’s mobile command center also there.

“Jay Ostrem has been apprehended and charged with three counts of First Degree Murder, and the scene has been secured by law enforcement,” said Attorney General Jackley. “There is no ongoing threat to the public.”
