Science Hill, Kentucky, mourns the loss of Jason Ryan “Slinky” Vaught, a beloved resident who passed away at the age of 32 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Born on January 16, 1992, in Danville, Kentucky, Jason was the cherished son of Jesse Vaught and Amelia Phelps Brewster. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community members.
Jason Vaught was known for his love of the outdoors and his passion for activities such as shooting, fishing, and hunting. These hobbies were more than just pastimes for Jason; they were a way for him to connect with nature and find peace and joy. He delighted in the tranquility of a day spent by the water with a fishing rod in hand or the camaraderie of a hunting trip with friends and family. His enthusiasm for these activities was infectious, and he often encouraged others to join him in enjoying the beauty of the natural world.
On April 24, 2021, Jason married the love of his life, Caroline Marguerite Moody Vaught. Their union was a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other. Caroline and Jason shared many happy moments together, and their love was evident to all who knew them. Jason’s role as a husband was one he cherished deeply, and he was devoted to providing love and support to Caroline.
Jason was a dedicated father to his children, Alexis Vaught, Kerrigan Garrison, and River Vaught. He took great pride in his children and found immense joy in spending time with them. Whether it was helping with school projects, attending sports events, or simply playing together in the backyard, Jason’s love for his children was always evident. He strived to be a positive role model and a source of strength and guidance for them.
He was also a valued member of Bethelridge Church, where his faith played a significant role in his life. Jason’s involvement in the church community was marked by his dedication and willingness to help others. His faith provided him with a sense of purpose and direction, and he was known for his compassionate and caring nature.
Professionally, Jason worked as a correctional officer at Northpoint Training Center in Burgin, Kentucky. His role required a great deal of courage, integrity, and a strong sense of justice, all qualities that Jason possessed in abundance. He was respected by his colleagues for his professionalism and his commitment to his duties. His work in the corrections field was a reflection of his desire to contribute to the safety and well-being of his community.
Jason is survived by his wife, Caroline Vaught; his children, Alexis Vaught, Kerrigan Garrison, and River Vaught; his father, Jesse Vaught of Science Hill; his mother and stepfather, Amelia and David Brewster of Somerset; two brothers, Justin Vaught and Hayden Vaught, both of Somerset; three sisters, Jessica Vaught of Science Hill, Jacey Brewster and Josie Brewster, both of Somerset; his maternal grandmother, Alta Phelps of Bethelridge; and his paternal grandfather, Arthur Vaught of Bethelridge. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members, neighbors, and friends who are deeply saddened by his passing.
Jason was preceded in death by his son, Kaeden Vaught; his stepfather, Donald Phelps of Somerset; his maternal grandparents, Ed and Patricia Phelps; and his paternal grandmother, Patricia Vaught. The loss of these loved ones was deeply felt by Jason, and he often spoke of the fond memories he shared with them.
A visitation for Jason Vaught will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, located at 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503. His funeral ceremony will take place in the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be presided over by Bro. Andrew Luttrell and Bro. Gene Sweet. Following the funeral, Jason will be laid to rest at Bethelridge Cemetery.
Jason Ryan “Slinky” Vaught will be remembered for his warm heart, his love for his family, and his dedication to his community. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Jason. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
