Edward Thomas Ryan, a decorated veteran and beloved resident of Albany, New York, passed away on June 11, 2024, at the age of 75, leaving behind his numerous nieces and nephews, including Linda Sargent, Dennis Williams, Theresa Beach, George Williams, Warren Williams, Sharon Ryan, Kelly Blue, Joseph Ryan, Mary Jane Brozowski, Judith Leto, Daniel Dominski, Michael Dominski, Cathy Stammel, and Cornelius Ryan, who will deeply miss him.

Col. Ryan was a devoted member of St. John’s Church in Rensselaer and a retired firefighter from Rensselaer, New York, who served with bravery and distinction. He was also a successful entrepreneur, having founded and owned WHRL-FM radio station in Albany, New York. Additionally, he was a skilled chef, having worked at American Legion Post #1231 in East Greenbush.

Throughout his life, Col. Ryan was dedicated to serving his country and community. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars POST # 7378 and a past commander of Melvin Roads POST 1231, American Legion in East Greenbush, New York. He also served as a past grand knight of the Rensselaer Knights of Columbus and chairman of the Vietnam Veterans/Agent Orange Committee for the American Legion in New York State.

Col. Ryan’s military service was marked by numerous honors and decorations, including the Defense of Liberty Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Conspicuous Service Medal, and Commanders Citation. He was a true hero and a devoted servant to his country and community.

In accordance with his wishes, Col. Ryan’s body has been donated to Albany Medical College’s Anatomical Gift Program. His ashes will be returned to his family after the program’s mission is complete, and he will be laid to rest in Kinderhook, New York. There will be no memorial services, and the funeral will be private for the family only.

Col. Ryan’s legacy will live on through his loved ones and the countless lives he touched throughout his career. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will never be forgotten.
