Eldon K. Moen Obituary, Death: Beloved Former Brevard Community College Music Teacher and Cherished Resident of Melbourne, Passed Away: The Melbourne community mourns the loss of Eldon K. Moen, a beloved former music teacher at Brevard Community College and a cherished resident of Melbourne, Florida. Eldon passed away, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to music education, community service, and family. Eldon K. Moen was born in 1930 and demonstrated a passion for music from an early age. He pursued this passion academically, earning a master’s degree in music education from the University of Wichita in 1950. Shortly after his graduation, Eldon enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served with distinction. It was during his service at Keesler Air Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, that he met his future wife, Iris. The couple married on February 14, 1953, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, embarking on a lifelong journey together.

Eldon is survived by his wife Iris; their sons and daughters-in-law, Eric & Tiffany Moen of Daytona Beach and Alex & Jill Moen of New Smyrna Beach; their daughters and sons-in-law, Krista & Bob Moyer of Melbourne and Tina & Mike Marshall of Knoxville. Eldon also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy for him.

Eldon’s professional career in music education began in the early 1960s at Melbourne High School, where he served as a choir director. His passion for teaching and his dedication to his students quickly became evident. He continued his career in Brevard County, becoming a professor of music and humanities at Brevard Community College. Over his more than 26 years of service, Eldon profoundly impacted his students and colleagues, earning respect and admiration for his teaching methods and his commitment to the arts.

In 1969, while teaching at Brevard Junior College, Eldon founded a small chorus composed of his choral students and members of Melbourne’s First Baptist Church. This group, known today as the Brevard Community Chorus, continues to perform at the King Center and stands as a testament to Eldon’s lasting influence on the local music scene. His dedication to fostering musical talent and appreciation in the community was unwavering, and his efforts have left a lasting legacy.

In addition to his work in education, Eldon served as Minister of Music at several South Brevard churches over the years. His roles included serving at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne, the First Baptist Church of Eau Gallie, the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, and Satellite Beach United Methodist Church. Eldon’s tenure at Satellite Beach United Methodist Church spanned more than 20 years, during which he enriched the spiritual and musical lives of countless parishioners.

Eldon’s contributions to music education and his community were not limited to formal settings. He was known for his creativity and enthusiasm, often bringing innovative ideas to his choirs and music programs. His ability to inspire and engage with his students and community members was unparalleled, and his influence extended beyond the classroom and church into the broader cultural life of Melbourne.

Eldon retired in June 1988, but his passion for music and education never waned. Even in retirement, he continued to be an active member of the community, participating in various musical events and supporting local arts initiatives. His legacy is one of dedication, passion, and an unwavering commitment to enriching the lives of others through music.

A celebration of Eldon’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a memorial ceremony at 11:00 am. This event will provide an opportunity for family, friends, colleagues, and community members to come together to honor Eldon’s memory and celebrate his many contributions to their lives and the community.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Eastern Florida State College Foundation. Contributions should be designated for the Brevard Community Chorus to continue supporting the musical initiatives that Eldon so passionately championed. This gesture will help ensure that his legacy of fostering musical talent and education continues for future generations.
