Nicholas “Nick” Minske, a cherished member of the East Grand Forks community and a well-known local racer, tragically passed away following a severe accident. The heartbreaking news was shared in a social media post by Bemidji Speedway, which read, “Bemidji Speedway would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Nick Minske. Nick is a Late Model driver from East Grand Forks, MN who was involved in a serious accident this last weekend, tomorrow morning he is being taken off life support and his organs will be donated.”

The Tragic Accident Involving Nick Minske

The incident that led to Nick Minske’s untimely passing occurred on Saturday, June 15, at approximately 8:30 p.m. The collision took place near Grand Forks, at the intersection of County Road 5 and 32nd Avenue South, about four miles west of town. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), the crash involved a 2009 Pontiac Vibe driven by an unidentified juvenile and a 2021 Honda motorcycle driven by 35-year-old Nicholas Minske.

The NDHP report detailed that the motorcycle was traveling south on Grand Forks County Road 5 when the Pontiac, which was approaching a stop sign, decelerated and then proceeded through the intersection with 32nd Avenue South. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Pontiac, resulting in significant damage and severe injuries to the motorcyclist.

Nick Minske sustained critical injuries in the crash and was immediately transported to Altru Hospital for urgent medical care. The occupants of the Pontiac were also taken to Altru Hospital for treatment of their injuries, which the Highway Patrol described as non-life-threatening. Fortunately, the driver of the Pontiac was not injured in the accident.
