The community of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is reeling in shock and grief following the sudden passing of Christopher Lucas, a loving son, brother, and friend, who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. Christopher, affectionately known as Furd Lucas to his loved ones, was a bright light in the lives of his family and friends, and his untimely departure has left a gaping hole in their lives.
Born to Kevin Lucas and Melissa Lucas of Brookings, South Dakota, Christopher grew up with a passion for the outdoors, hiking, and traveling. His love for adventure took him to new heights, and he explored the world with an infectious enthusiasm that inspired those around him. Despite his love for adventure, Christopher was deeply rooted in his family and cherished the time spent with his loved ones.
Christopher’s parents, Kevin and Melissa, were incredibly proud of their son, who had grown into a kind, compassionate, and thoughtful individual. His sister, Kelsie Frederickson, looked up to him with admiration and adoration. The bond between Christopher and his family was unbreakable, and his passing has left them shattered.
The news of Christopher’s passing was announced on social media, leaving friends and family stunned and heartbroken. The statement read, “It’s with a heavy heart Kevin Lucas, Melissa Lucas, Kyle Evans, and I are letting you know we have just lost our son, Christopher Lucas (aka Furd Lucas).” The outpouring of love and support on social media has been overwhelming, with friends and family sharing fond memories and tributes to Christopher’s life.
To alleviate the financial burden on the family, a GoFundMe page was set up by Anthony Murray, with a goal of raising $5,000 to cover funeral expenses. The response has been remarkable, with $4,915 raised at the time of this report. The page reads, “Our dearly loved Christopher ‘Furd’ Lucas, just shy of his 36th birthday, has left this world and all that knew him with broken hearts. To relieve the family from some of the financial burden, I have set up this GFM to contribute to if you are able and willing.”
In keeping with Christopher’s wishes, the family will hold a short, casual memorial service on Saturday, August 10th, at 4:00 pm at the Greenwood cemetery in Brookings, South Dakota, at the gravesite of his sister, Cassandra Lucas (Cassie Wherley), who passed away in 2016. Following the service, family and friends will gather at Cory and Melissa Mitchell Foerster’s shop at 423 Red Twig, Brookings, South Dakota, to celebrate Christopher’s life.
The family has announced that Christopher’s obituary will be released at a later date, allowing them time to process their grief and find the words to honor their beloved son and brother. For now, they ask that friends and family share their favorite memories of Christopher, so they can cherish the time they had with him.
