William Goodman Jr and Demonte Tillery Death: Suffolk is gravely uneasy after a late Thursday night gunshot on September 12, 2024, killed two individuals and injured three others. The incident occurred in the 800 block of East Washington Street, a residential and commercial area. Suffolk Police received gunfire reports around 11:25 p.m., shattering the night. Officers found five gunshot-wounded individuals. Suffolk Fire & Rescue provided medical help quickly. The severity of their injuries killed two men.

Suffolk residents William Eugene Goodman Jr., 37, and Demonte Lamont Tillery, 30, were the victims. Goodman died at the site before receiving medical assistance. Tillery died after being taken to a nearby hospital despite medical efforts. Their deaths are another sad statistic in the rising gun violence in US cities. Three others—a lady and two men—sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the attack. They were also sent to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not announced their identities or conditions. The city is reeling from this horrible attack, and the populace awaits updates. Suffolk, a 95,000-person city with a gentler environment than larger cities, was shaken by the occurrence. However, increased gun-related events have disturbed neighbours and raised concerns about neighbourhood safety. Police Chief Alfred Buie sent a press release expressing sympathy for the victims’ families. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time,” Buie said.

He also informed the people that the Suffolk Police Department is investigating the shooting and will prosecute those responsible. “This type of violence has no place in Suffolk, and we are committed to justice.” Though the Chief’s words offer comfort, the community remains on edge. Residents want more police and stronger gun laws. Local leaders have urged the police to increase their efforts and called for projects to prevent similar disasters. Suffolk Police have not identified suspects or the shooting’s motivation. The probe is early with no arrests. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding businesses and questioning witnesses to determine what happened before the incident.
