Sandra Quinn Colvin, a beloved member of the Fort Meade, Florida, community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on August 22, 1949, in Wauchula, Florida, Sandra was the daughter of Randal and Betty Quinn. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and public servant, Sandra touched the lives of many through her work, her faith, and her unwavering commitment to her family and her community. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Sandra was born and raised in the small, rural town of Wauchula, where she spent her childhood surrounded by the love and care of her parents and siblings. Growing up in a close-knit family, Sandra learned the importance of hard work, family values, and faith from an early age. These principles would guide her throughout her life as she went on to build her own family and pursue a career dedicated to public service. Her upbringing in a humble, hardworking environment instilled in her a strong sense of responsibility and compassion for others, traits that would define both her personal and professional life.
Sandra attended local schools in Wauchula, where she excelled academically and socially. She was known for her warm and friendly personality, which earned her many friends. Her peers often looked to her for advice and support, qualities that would later make her a cherished member of her community. After graduating from high school, Sandra pursued a career in public service, eventually becoming the Exemption Supervisor at the Hardee County Property Appraiser’s Office. Over the course of her career, Sandra earned the respect of her colleagues and the citizens she served through her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to doing what was right.
As Exemption Supervisor, Sandra was responsible for overseeing the property tax exemptions process for Hardee County residents. Her expertise in this area was recognized by the International Association of Assessing Officers and the Florida Department of Revenue, both of which awarded her the title of Florida Evaluator. Sandra took great pride in her work and viewed it as an opportunity to serve her community in a meaningful way. She was known for her meticulous attention to detail, her fairness, and her deep sense of responsibility to the taxpayers of Hardee County. Many residents came to rely on her for guidance and assistance, knowing that they could trust her to handle their concerns with care and professionalism.
In addition to her professional achievements, Sandra was deeply involved in her church, the Fort Meade Worship Centre, where she was an active and dedicated participant. Her faith was a central part of her life, and she took great joy in being a part of the church community. Whether she was organizing events, volunteering her time, or simply offering a kind word to those in need, Sandra’s presence was felt by all who attended the church. Her faith was a source of strength and comfort to her, and she found peace in knowing that she was living her life in service to others and to God. Her commitment to her faith was an inspiration to her family and friends, who often looked to her for spiritual guidance and support.
Sandra’s family was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She married the love of her life, Larry Colvin, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared experiences. Their marriage was a partnership based on mutual respect, trust, and unwavering support for one another. Larry was not only her husband but also her best friend and confidante. The couple shared a deep bond that was evident to all who knew them, and their love for each other was a source of strength and joy throughout their marriage.
Sandra was the proud mother of two sons, James Eric Quinn, who currently resides in Cebu, Philippines, and Matthew Mark McEntyre. She was also a devoted stepmother to Allen Thomas of Lakeland, Florida. Sandra’s love for her children knew no bounds, and she took great pride in watching them grow into the men they are today. She was always there for them, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. Sandra’s role as a mother was one she cherished, and she made it her priority to ensure that her children were raised in a loving and supportive environment.
Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy. Sandra had six grandchildren: Carson Justice Quinn of Paducah, Kentucky; Ashton Kriss Quinn, Kadence Denae Quinn, and Emersyn Haylee Quinn, all of Clewiston, Florida; Roslyn Leanna Bryant of Avon Park, Florida; and Aiden Thomas of Lakeland, Florida. Sandra adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment she spent with them. She took great joy in being a part of their lives, attending their school events, celebrating holidays together, and watching them grow into the individuals they are today. Sandra’s love for her family was boundless, and her presence in their lives will be deeply missed.
In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Sandra is survived by her three sisters: Noveda Quinn, Laura Honc, and Barbara Quinn, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Family was everything to Sandra, and she was always there to support her siblings and extended relatives in times of need. Her home was a gathering place for family events and holidays, where memories were made, stories were shared, and laughter filled the air. Sandra’s role as the matriarch of her family was one she embraced wholeheartedly, and her love for her family was the driving force behind everything she did.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Randal and Betty Quinn, and her three brothers, Carson, Marty, and Malcolm Quinn. Though their loss was difficult for her, Sandra found comfort in the love and support of her family and her faith. She often spoke of the happy memories she shared with her parents and brothers, and those who knew her could see how deeply she cherished those moments. Their memory was always with her, and she carried their love and wisdom with her throughout her life.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Sandra’s life on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McLean Funeral Home in Fort Meade, Florida. A funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fort Meade Worship Centre, located at 1 North Cleveland Avenue, Fort Meade. Sandra will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, where she will join her parents and brothers in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Fort Meade Worship Centre in Sandra’s memory, as a way to honor her deep commitment to her faith and her church community.
As Sandra’s family, friends, and community come together to say their final goodbyes, they will do so with hearts full of love and gratitude for the time they had with her. Sandra’s life was one of purpose, dedication, and love. She touched the lives of so many through her work, her faith, and her kindness, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment to her family and community, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
