36-year-old Abdirahman Mahmoud charged with the murder of 30-year-old Raoul Mapendo Tshiyuka
PORTLAND, Maine – Portland Police were called to the area of 263 St. John Street just after 1:00 AM for the report of a person that had been shot. The victim, 30-year-old Raoul Mapendo Tshiyuka of Portland, was transported to the Maine Medical Center where he later died.
An autopsy was performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and it was determined that he died from a gunshot wound and his death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators quickly identified a person of interest and a request to locate was issued statewide. The suspect’s vehicle was located by the South Portland Police Department in a driveway at 77 Wainwright Circle East.
A search warrant was executed at this residence by our Special Reaction Team (SRT) along with assistance from the Southern Maine Regional SWAT team.
Both teams then assisted in executing a search warrant at 66 Wellesley Estates in Portland. While executing this warrant, the suspect contacted the Portland Regional Communication Center and advised he was at 224 Ocean Avenue in Portland.
Members of our SRT and the Southern Maine Regional SWAT team were sent to this address and took Abdirahman Mahmoud (DOB 1-1-1988) into custody without incident.
Mahmoud has been arrested and charged with Murder, he is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail.
