Tragic Mass Shooting in King City: Woman and Three Men Killed, 4 Hurt in Suspected Gang-Related Incident at Birthday Party
A horrific shooting incident unfolded in King City, California, on Sunday evening, believed to be orchestrated by a gang. The violence erupted on North Second Street, near the intersection with Lynn Street, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured, as confirmed by the King City Police Department.
Authorities suspect that a total of seven individuals were shot during the incident, with one woman and three men identified among the victims. All the deceased were adults, and three of them were taken to Natividad for treatment.
According to Chief Jim Hunt of the Police Department, three individuals clad in black clothing and masks emerged from a vehicle parked in front of a residence and unleashed gunfire, marking a targeted attack. Law enforcement agencies are now on the lookout for a silver Kia believed to be associated with the perpetrators.
The targeted location was reportedly hosting a birthday celebration at the time of the shooting, which occurred around six o’clock in the evening. Responding to the scene were various emergency response units from the region.
Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez, representing King City, took to Facebook to express solidarity, urging prayers and healing for the community amidst the unfolding tragedy. Meanwhile, Drew Tipton, Former Greenfield City Councilmember, emphasized the need to allow law enforcement to handle the situation, urging residents to stay clear of the area and allow first responders to carry out their duties effectively.
Preliminary investigations by law enforcement revealed that three masked gunmen initiated the attack, fleeing the scene in a silver Kia sedan.
Reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated a flurry of activity, with multiple units responding urgently to the incident scene. A grey Kia sedan, identified by its license plate 7LDN369, was flagged as the suspect vehicle, spotted heading north on Highway 101. However, it was later revealed that the license plate was stolen, with a CHP Flock camera capturing the vehicle with a different plate, 7CDN369.
Emergency medical services responded promptly to the scene, with some victims transported via helicopter and ambulance for urgent medical attention. As of the latest update, four individuals have tragically lost their lives, with three sustaining gunshot wounds, marking a devastating turn of events for the King City community.
