Tallahassee Car Accident: Truck driver dead after crashing into a house in northwest Leon County.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a driver died when a Chevrolet pick-up truck struck a house early on Thursday afternoon in northwest Leon County.
According to authorities, with severe injuries, the truck passenger was sent to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. According to FHP spokesman Patricia Shaw, troopers from the agency responded at the house in the 3900 block of Bentwood Lane at around 11:30 a.m. to look into the collision.
No one was inside the house at the time of the collision, according to an FHP trooper who was on the scene, and the victim’s next of kin have been notified.
When he saw the crash, Michael White, an employee of the Secondhand Sandies charity business next door to the residence, hurried over to assist. According to him, the driver sped into the house. After swerving between two approaching vehicles and plunging through a ditch that ran next to the road, the truck broke through the house’s perimeter fence and crashed into the structure.
“I’m from the military, so I’ve seen death unfortunately,” White stated. “I tried to help as best as I could; the driver was unfortunately too far beyond to be helped.”
According to White, the passenger was “in and out” before being taken to the hospital.
As of Thursday afternoon, no additional information on the cause of the incident was known.
Investigation is ongoing.
