Brian McMahon Obituary, Death – This morning, my brother Brian McMahon, who had been battling cancer for a very long time, passed away. He had been battling the disease for a very long period. I am passing on this information to you with a great deal of regret. On Friday, July 28, 2023, Brian J. McMahon, who resided in Yorkville and was 85 years old, passed away at his residence.

His parents, John and Mervina (née Volk) McMahon, welcomed him into the world on November 28th, 1937 in Westfield, Wisconsin. Westfield was his hometown, and he attended Westfield High School and graduated from there. A

fter that, he went to the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from this institution. During his time in the United States Army, Brian served. Cheryl Johnson and he tied the knot on May 22, 1965, in Milwaukee. The ceremony took place in Milwaukee.

After getting married, they initially resided in Milwaukee and Sturtevant with the intention of relocating to Yorkville. It has been fifty-two years since they moved into Yorkville as permanent residents. McMahon-Veltus, S.C. in Racine and Union Grove was operated by Brian, who was a certified public accountant who retired in 2020 after sixty years of service. I

n addition to being a member of the Union Grove Lions Club, the Rotary Founder’s Club in Racine, and the Caledonia American Legion Post 494, he is also a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, where he served as the head of the financial committee for a period of twenty-five years.

During his time with the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association (WHHA), Brian was the organization’s accountant. He also competed in harness horse races. At the age of ten, he commenced his racing career by competing with Thoroughbred horses. Subsequently, he changed to harness horse racing and eventually retired from racing at the age of 83.

Throughout the years, Brian served on a number of boards of directors, including the Greater Union Grove Community Foundation, where he had previously held the position of Executive President. Cheryl, his devoted wife of 58 years, his children Tina (Dale) Staszewski, Patti (Les) Dingee, Mary Pearson, and James McMahon, his grandchildren Colleen and Erin Staszewski, Tim (Jessica), Alex (Allie), and Scott Dingee, and Tyler and Olivia Pearson, and his great-grandchildren Gwen and Theo Dingee and Archer Dingee, and his great-great-grandchildren have also survived Brian. He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon Abraham (who is married to Alan) and Terry McMahon (who is married to Nancy).

His mother and father, his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bruce LeRoy, as well as his sister Audrey Morgan, all passed away before him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated to the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association or to the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church during Brian’s lifetime.
