Joyce Bailey Obituary, Death – We are deeply saddened to learn of the demise of Joyce Bailey (née Hewson), a legendary figure in the sport of hockey in Washington. During this difficult time, Hockey WA would like to express its condolences to Joyce’s family.

Hockey (sport) The news of the demise of Washington hockey great Joyce Bailey (née Hewson) has left the state in a state of mourning. Joyce was a lively and skilled inside forward who was always aware of goal opportunities and was great at threading her way through the circle. She was a member of the team that brought the team together.

Joyce fell in love with the sport of hockey while she was a child growing up in the town of Collie, which is located in the South West. Before she fell in love with the sport, she had admired the talent of the game while watching teenagers train at the local high school.

Joyce was selected for the State team for the first time in 1955, when she was just 16 years old and representing Collie at Country Week. This was just a few years after she had first picked up a hockey stick.

In the years that followed, she was a member of the Western Australian team for seven years and the Australian squad for five years. Upon her return to Collie, Joyce continued to be actively involved in coaching within the hockey community despite her absence. Joyce has been inducted into the YMCC (Surf) Team of the Century for the 50’s decade.

Additionally, she is a member of the Collie’s Sporting Hall of Fame and the Hockey WA Hall of Champions. During this difficult time, Hockey WA would like to express its condolences to Joyce’s family.
