New Mexico State Police announced that one of their Highway Patrol officers, Justin Hare, was tragically shot and killed on Interstate 40, roughly 10 miles west of Tucumcari.
The situation is ongoing, and authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
The suspect, described as wearing a brown hoodie and jacket, was last spotted on foot on the I-40 Frontage Road at mile marker 304 between Montoya and Newkirk.
Officials warn that the suspect is armed and dangerous, urging the public not to approach.
