Over the course of twenty years, she has been a pre-school teacher in the New Jersey communities of Barnegat, Manahawkin, and Waretown. It was a profession that was a good fit for her honest and kind nature, as she cherished each and every child that she instructed as if they were her own children.
In spite of the fact that you had only spent a brief amount of time with Donna, she had the ability to leave an indelible mark on people. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Kenneth Higgins; two devoted children, Justin and his wife Ashley Paterson, and Kelli Higgins and her fiancé Keith Schairer; two cherished grandchildren, James David Patterson and Zachary Allen Patterson; her loving parents, David and Theresa Thompson; two devoted sisters, Dawn Westervelt and Tracy Giannone; and her loving brothers and sisters-in-law and other family members. She will be greatly missed by all of these people.

This was the most significant and satisfying job she had ever held. It was not only her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that she was passionate about; she was also passionate about floral design and coming to the cottage in the north to ride dune buggies with her family.
It was common knowledge among those who had the opportunity to know or interact with Donna that she was the most ardent and admired individual one could possibly come across.
