Mildred Woodard Obituary, Death – Good morning, Facebook family! We ask for your assistance in mourning the loss of my mother, Elder Mildred Woodard. As of yesterday, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, she had departed away.

Hayesville resident Mildred P. Woodard, who was 95 years old, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015, in a hospital in Murphy. She had spent her entire life in Clay County, where she was born and raised.

Mildred got the opportunity to work with her husband at Woodard Electric, where she held the position of administrative assistant. Over the course of sixteen years, she was a volunteer with the Murphy Medical Center Auxiliary. In Hayesville, Mildred attended the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church as a member of the congregation.

She was born to Everette DeWitt and Ollie Lance Penland, both of whom passed away before her birth. Dr. Elaine W. Huffman, her daughter, passed away on December 13, 2009, making her the second person in her family to pass away.

Her surviving family members include her husband of 73 years, Kenneth W. Woodard; her son, Warren Woodard and his wife, Mareen, of Murphy; her two granddaughters, Catherine Woodard and Sharon Woodard Lee; her great grandson, Brayden Lee; and her step great granddaughter, Joyclene Lee. Funeral services were performed at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at eleven o’clock in the morning.

The Reverends Chad Chandler and Jim Payne presided over the religious ceremony. It was in the church graveyard that the burial took place. The following individuals served as pallbearers: Mitchell Nichols, Ronnie, Danny, Brian, and Tim Burch, Doug Lee, and Billy Ellis! At the Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville, where the body was kept until it was moved inside the church thirty minutes before the services, the family made themselves available to friends from six until nine o’clock on Tuesday evening.

As an alternative to sending flowers, the family prefers that memorial contributions be made in honor of Mildred P. Woodard to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, which may be found at 110 Marvin Cabe Drive, Hayesville, North Carolina 28904. All of the arrangements have been transferred to the Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville.
