The portfolio of work that he leaves behind is one that not only astonished the entire globe when it was first introduced, but also continues to educate and amaze any automobile designer working today.
The Italian automobile designer Marcello Gandini, who was known for his forward-thinking designs, passed suddenly on March 13, 2024 in Rivoli, Turin. He had reached the age of 85. One of the most forward-thinking automobile designers of the 1960s, Marcello Gandini brought his scissor doors, which were considered to be a revolutionary design at the time, to life in a number of his vehicle models, including the Lamborghini Countach. Marcello Gandini succeeded Giorgetto Giurguiaro as the principal designer of Bertone between the years 1960 and 1970.
He also served in this capacity during the period. The Lamborghini Miura, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, the Lancia Stratos, the Ferrari Dino 308 GT4, and the Maserati Khamsin were among the sports vehicles that he designed during his employment at the company. During the ceremony, Marcello Gandini was presented with an honorary degree in mechanical engineering.
