Emmet Stagg Obituary, Death – Emmet Stagg, a former member of the National Labour Party, has gone away at the age of 79. Mr. Stagg was a member of the House of Representatives for a record 29 years, during which time he represented the seats of Kildare and Kildare North from 1987 until 2016. It is noteworthy that Mr. Stagg served twice as a minister of state in the Rainbow alliance Government, which was an alliance consisting of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, and Democratic Left. During his time, Mr. Stagg held prominent roles within the government.

After serving as Minister of State at the Department of the Environment from 1993 to 1994, he went on to serve as Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Energy, and Communications from 1994 to 1997.

His tenure at the Department of Environment occurred between the years 1993 and 1994. Beginning in 2007, he was appointed to the role of Chief Whip of the Labour Party, and he also held the position of Deputy Chief Whip of the Government from 2011 until 2016.

Despite the fact that he was unsuccessful in retaining his seat in the general election held in 2016, Mr. Stagg remained dedicated to serving the people and ran for office in the 2020 election in an effort to win back his seat.

He was not successful in this quest, which is a great disappointment. Ivana Bacik, the leader of the Labour Party, issued the following statement in response to the passing of Emmet Stagg, a former member of the Kildare Labour TD and Minister of State.

“I want to pay tribute to our friend and colleague Emmet Stagg on his passing, and extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Mary, children Gillian and Henry, extended family, friends, and supporters.

”In both Leinster House and Kildare, Emmet was a stalwart of the Labour Party’s political apparatus, and he will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The news of his demise has left those of us who knew him as a friend and supportive mentor over a long period of time very grieved.

He was kind and courteous, and he continued to keep a genuine interest in Labour politics even after he left the Dáil. Aside from his involvement in politics, he was also quite passionate about gardening and fishing, and he entertained us with a great deal of stories over the course of his life. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to Mary and his family during this difficult time.
