Betty Mathews Obituary, Death – At the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia, Betty Mathews, who was 89 years old at the time of her death, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

The late Ambrose Greer and Hattie Pennington Greer were Betty’s parents, and she was born and raised in Konnarock, Virginia. In addition, she was preceded in death by her son Allen Mathews, her husband William “Bill” Mathews, and ten of her brothers.

As a result of her enthusiasm for bowling, Betty took part in a number of different leagues over the course of her life. She had great pleasure in accompanying her husband, Bill, to the different places where he performed his musical arrangements. As someone who was skilled at playing cards and had a passion for quilting and sewing, Betty took great pleasure in these activities throughout her life.

In order to demonstrate her inventiveness and thoughtfulness, she produced a number of items for the people she values the most. She was born in Konnarock, Virginia, to the late Ambrose Greer and Hattie Pennington Greer, and she spent her childhood there. In addition, she was preceded in death by her son Allen Mathews, her husband William “Bill” Mathews, and ten of her brothers.

In addition to her three children, Eddie Mathews and his wife Ann, Terri Callaghan, and Craig Mathews and his wife Elizabeth, she is survived by her brother Bruce “Bud” Greer and his family, her grandchildren Wesley Mathews, Christopher Callaghan, Nicole Callaghan, Keith Mathews, Mason Mathews, and Ben Mathews, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Between the hours of one and two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the family will be present at Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie to greet friends.
