At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with both families.

The country icon took to social media to convey the news. Some of the elders on Strait had been there for decades. A social media post by Strait states, “It is difficult to believe that we lost two members of our music family on the same day.” Not shortly after we learned of Erv’s death yesterday afternoon, Gene Elders, a beloved Ace in the Hole band member, went away.

Gene Elders, a veteran member of the band Ace in the Hole, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 20, only hours after his longtime manager, Erv Woosley, passed away. He recorded full string sections for artists worldwide in addition to violins, mandolins, concertinas, octaves of viola, mandolins, and other instruments while working as a film composer. Film scores were also his forte.

We are unaware of any other details concerning Elders’ demise, including the circumstances of his passing. The same day that Gene Elders died was also the day that Erv Woosley, who had managed Strait for 45 years, died. Surgical complications were the last straw that killed 80-year-old Woosley. He passed away while he was in the hospital.

Several social media channels were graced with a heartfelt tribute to Elders by the Texan early Thursday morning. Two beloved members of our musical family went away on the same day; it’s hard to believe. Upon waking up this morning, who had been my manager for nearly 45 years and, more significantly, a friend for much longer. He lamented that he had been unable to overcome obstacles stemming from complications following surgery.
