Barry Silver’s Demise: On March 21, 2024, Barry Silver departed from this life in Boynton Beach, Florida. Rabbi Barry Silver is a Florida politician and attorney who was born on November 18, 1956. He was a member of the Florida House of Representatives in the past.

Elaine and Samuel Silver welcomed Silver, a resident of Stamford, Connecticut, into the world in Mount Vernon, New York. He graduated with honors from Florida Atlantic University in 1979 and from Nova University with a Juris Doctor in 1983.

Silver received admission to the Florida Bar in 1983. Silver defeated Ron Klein in the September 2, 1996 primary election to assume the Florida House of Representatives District 89 seat. Silver won the Democratic nomination for the October runoff election by defeating Glenn Wichinsky. Because there was no Republican opposition, Silver’s victory in the runoff essentially gave him the District 89 Seat.

In June 2022, Silver filed a lawsuit in Florida over a law that forbade abortions beyond 15 weeks. Silver claimed that the measure infringed upon various legal rights, including the constitutionally protected freedom of religion. Silver has been the leader of Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor in Palm Beach County since 1996.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Rabbi Sam Silver, who was dedicated to the ideals of social action, rational Judaism, and interfaith cooperation, Barry has been leading Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor since 1996. Barry is involved in many different activities, such as officiating Jewish and Interfaith weddings, life cycle events, lectures, debates, talking about current affairs, writing opinion articles for the Jewish Journal, and giving speeches.

Barry is not just a “Rockin’ Robe” rabbi but also the founder of cosmic Judaism, a religion that blends science with Judaism. In addition, he offers entertaining and inspiring Jewish takes on rock music. Barry’s fields of practice include public interest, environmental, personal injury, and civil, constitutional, and abortion rights law.

Barry was named Feminist of the Year by Broward NOW in recognition of her victory in a historic abortion rights litigation. She has also received several additional honors, including recognition from the Black Police Officers of America for her support of civil rights.

Citrus trees were shielded from the state’s eradication program by a former marine who successfully defended his right to fly the flag at home; Native Americans prevented the destruction of a sacred site in Miami; the City of Delray Beach and a fake psychic were sued for conspiracy to defraud; the police were sued for shooting dogs without cause; the Scripps Company was stopped from entering Mecca Farms to preserve agricultural lands; and Barry has successfully handled numerous other cases of public interest.

From 1996 to 1998, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. During that period, he was named a “Most Effective Environmental Legislator” by the Sierra Club and a “Consumer Champion” by the state’s most powerful consumer advocacy group. Since 1990, Barry has been honored for his significant contributions to the betterment of society by being included in the Who’s Who in American Law directory.

Barry is not just a prominent member of the local anti-Trump opposition but also the founder of the Interfaith Justice League and the Palm Beach County Environmental Coalition. In addition, he has spearheaded several ecumenical protests, marches, and legal actions on behalf of the homeless, Native Americans, Israel, the environment, and animal rights.
