A Facebook post announcing his death said, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the demise of former Sheriff David Davenport. After a medical issue this morning, Sheriff Davenport passed away. David was the Jefferson County Sheriff for twelve years.

After graduating from Young High School in 1964, David went on to study at Walters State Community College, where he ultimately completed his studies in 1977.
