Cadbury, he was born in Philadelphia on June 3, 1945. The Germantown Friends education graduate attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut for undergraduate education and Maryland Institute of Art/Peabody Institute in Baltimore for a second undergraduate degree and a Masters in sculpting. Landscape architecture was his post-graduate study at Penn. David lived in Maine and Philadelphia in the early 1980s. His sculptures were conceptual works about natural and environmental processes.

He was Chairman of the Nexus Gallery in Philadelphia and had his art displayed by Max Protetch and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He also founded two construction companies: one that curated and restored eighteenth- and nineteenth-century houses and the other that managed high-end residential and commercial projects.

David and his family moved to Maine in 1992, where he worked as an artist and building consultant on large commercial development projects. He explored computer-generated imagery in his work, which was shown at the Penobscot Marine Museum and other Maine galleries.

David was an environmentalist his whole life. He founded Friends of Maine Coastal Islands NWR (previously Maine Seabird Islands) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to safeguard seabird habitat on Maine’s islands. He ran a Rockland, Maine nautical and antique business recently. The lifelong sailor helped build a schooner and refurbished many wooden vessels.

He cruised Maine from Bar Harbor to Tenants Harbor, New Jersey, and other eastern ports. He was active in Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting (Quakers) and on the boards of Friends Select School and Stapley Hall, a retirement facility. He was active in Midcoast Monthly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) in Damariscotta, Maine, and served as clerk for several years.

He married Karen L. Cadbury for 49 years and was loyal. David is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Benjamin Cadbury, his wife Sarah, and their children, Samuel and Sophia Cadbury; and his daughter, Rachel Cadbury Gagnon, her husband, Chad, and their children, Corrin and Arden.

He is also survived by his brother Joel Cadbury and his wife Bonnie from Marathon, Florida, and their daughters, as well as many loving family and friends. His Maine memorial service will be announced in early June. The family can arrange a private burial at Southwest Burial Ground in Philadelphia after the service.
