DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — A 35-year-old DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy was killed Thursday in a Scott’s Law crash on IL-23, according to police.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Christina Musil was parked on the shoulder of Route 23 south of Perry Road at 10:39 p.m. when a Kenworth truck ran off the road and rear-ended her squad car.

She was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb where she later died.

“Deputy Musil was a five-year veteran of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office who courageously served in the Corrections and Patrol Divisions,” said Sheriff Andy Sullivan. “Deputy Musil also proudly served her country in the Army National Guard as a military police officer for 4 years and served in Afghanistan from 2008-2009.”

Funeral arrangements are pending, and the crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

According to the ISP, the driver of the truck was not taken to the hospital.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Illinois’ Move Over Law (otherwise known as Scott’s Law) mandates that as drivers approach an emergency vehicle, they are required to slow down and move into an unoccupied lane.

A first offense of the law results in a fine of $250 or more. If an injury is caused, the violator’s driver’s license will be suspended between 6 months and 2 years.
