Polk County Emergency Management/Fire Marshal issued a statement on Facebook regarding the reported active shooter call at Polk County High School during lunchtime.
The post clarified that the call was a hoax and had been reported to 911 centers statewide.
At least three other counties in NC received similar calls.
Citizens were reminded to use the 911 system for emergencies only.
The statement emphasized that there was no active shooter at any Polk County School on that day.
