Saturday, November 25, a shooting outside Katy Mills Mall at 5000 Katy Mills Circle in Katy injured three people. The gunfire began in the parking area near to mall entrance 5 and Sun & Ski Sports. Shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Katy Police Chief Noe Diaz stated in a prerecorded press conference that there was no active shooter and that initial results revealed two groups of children were involved.
Diaz reported that one stolen car was found and that six 14- to 17-year-olds were in custody. He found many knives but no guns. Diaz said no one was killed, the injuries were minimal, and police took them to Memorial Hermann for emergency care.
Diaz said the Katy Fire Department and KPD handled the incident in under five minutes. After reviewing the tape, KPD Captain Javier Martinez said shooting appeared to originate near a car in the parking lot and head towards the mall entrance. Martinez said the investigation continues.
