Meriden Police Department, led by Lieutenant Darrin McKay, responded to the emergency call at approximately 7:45 p.m. Sergeant Adam Kery provided further details, stating that upon their arrival, they found that the young boy had sustained life-threatening injuries while driving the go-kart. He was accompanied in the vehicle by another child, a four-year-old boy, who fortunately escaped serious harm.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the children were driving the go-kart in the park’s parking lot when they collided with a swing gate. This gate is typically used to restrict vehicle access to certain parts of the park, including the fields. Despite wearing a helmet, the six-year-old suffered a traumatic injury due to the impact of the crash.
Emergency services rushed the young victim to a nearby medical facility in hopes of saving his life. Despite the best efforts of the first responders and medical staff, the child was pronounced dead.
