Alabama Car Accident: Inmates Jake Jones and Bruce Clements Killed, Willie Crayton, Thomas Bass, Heath Garrett, Shawn Wasden, and Richard Jackson Injured in Dadeville Prison Van Accident

A tragic incident occurred on a rural road in Dadeville, Alabama, when a prison transport vehicle was involved in a catastrophic accident, resulting in the deaths of two inmates, Jake Jones and Bruce Clements, and injuries to five others. The accident happened on Wednesday, as the vehicle, carrying seven inmates from their places of employment, crashed on Elder Road, east of State Route 49.

The inmates involved were identified as Willie Crayton, Jake Jones, Bruce Clements, Thomas Bass, Heath Garrett, Shawn Wasden, and Richard Jackson. Tragically, Willie Crayton was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, while Bruce Clements succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital. Jake Jones, critically injured, was transferred to another hospital for further medical treatment.

The four other inmates—Thomas Bass, Heath Garrett, Shawn Wasden, and Richard Jackson—suffered injuries that were described as non-life-threatening and were promptly attended to by medical teams.

The driver’s identity and condition at the time of the accident have not been disclosed by officials. The circumstances that led to this fatal collision are still under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, with details of the cause and the exact timing of the accident yet to be clarified.

In the wake of this tragedy, state officials have arranged for counselors to be available for both the staff and the inmates affected by the accident. Commissioner John Hamm of the Alabama Department of Corrections expressed deep sympathy towards the families and friends of the deceased inmates, assuring a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
