Cody Shelton Obituary – During the South by Southwest week, a tragic hit-and-run incident took place in downtown Austin, resulting in the death of a second individual.
The Austin Police Department has confirmed that the crash occurred at Seventh and Red River Street after a police pursuit involving a vehicle.
The initial victim, Cody Shelton, aged 26, lost his life in the collision, while the second victim’s identity has not been disclosed by the authorities. The police have arrested Tyrone Thompson, aged 23, who they believe was driving the vehicle involved in the crash.
Thompson has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, driving while intoxicated (DWI), resisting arrest search or transport, obstruction or retaliation, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and an accident involving death.
The arrest was made based on evidence obtained from HALO cameras in the area and Thompson’s social media posts. The incident began when an APD officer noticed a faulty headlamp on a Mazda vehicle and witnessed it running a red light.
After pulling the car over, the officer instructed the driver to stop, but the Mazda fled the scene, leading to the tragic collision. Thompson’s attorney declined to comment on the case when contacted by KXAN.
