An 18-year-old high school student from Rockville, identified as Andrea Ye but preferring the name Alex Ye, has been arrested in connection with plans to carry out a school shooting in Montgomery County.

The arrest, made on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), follows a collaborative investigation with the FBI Baltimore Field Office.

The investigation was initiated after the FBI alerted MCPD to a 129-page “manifesto” authored by Ye, detailing plans for a school shooting and outlining strategies to execute the act.

Ye also discussed the possibility of targeting an elementary school, expressing a desire for notoriety.

Following the issuance of a search warrant by MCPD, internet searches, drawings, and documents related to threats of mass violence were uncovered.

Subsequently, the Montgomery County Department of Police – Community Engagement Division, in coordination with Montgomery County Public Schools, implemented enhanced security measures, particularly at Wootton High School.

Ye has been taken into custody and charged with threats of mass violence.

Presently, Ye is held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit awaiting a bond hearing.
