Matthew Hicks Obituary – A motorcyclist passed away and six van occupants sustained injuries following a severe collision in San Bernardino County on Saturday evening.
The incident took place at approximately 6:10 p.m. on State Highway 18 near Quinnault Road in Apple Valley, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies from the Apple Valley sheriff’s station found that a motorcycle had collided with a van at the intersection, SBSD confirmed.
The collision occurred when a white Toyota Sienna traveling northbound on Quinnault Road attempted to make a left turn onto State Highway 18, resulting in the motorcyclist crashing into the van.
The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The deceased individual was identified as 39-year-old Matthew Hicks, a resident of Apple Valley.
Meanwhile, all six van occupants were taken to local hospitals for medical attention, with one juvenile being airlifted to a local trauma center, according to the sheriff’s department.
State Highway 18 was shut down for several hours between Central Road and Navajo Road after the collision, as deputies worked on processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
