Waycross GA community in shock after DUI accident kills multiple persons including minors
Residents of Waycross community in Ware County Georgia has been left traumatised and heartbroken following multiple fatal incident across the town this weekend. The community members have come together to put in plans for a memorial and candlelight for the victims of the tragic weekend incidents.
According to law enforcement, four individuals died in two different car accidents across the community. On Saturday, near the Fairgrounds, an 8-year-old girl and a toddler were struck by vehicle driven by a driver running from the police. The girl was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to News GA. The toddler was transported to a child trauma centre where they succumbed to their injury.
A second crash on the same Saturday left two males dead. One of the male identified as only as a 17-year-old high school student was returning from work when he was fatally struck by a driver who law enforcement say was driving under the influence of alcohol. The tragedy across the town of Waycross has left the community members devastated and heartbroken. The community has also called for prayers for the bereaved families as they mourn there loved ones.
A preparation for a candlelight night is in progress, according to GA News. Family and friends has identified the 8-year-old victim as a lover of gymnastics. The car accident happened less than one day to her 9th birthday. “Words cannot describe how much this beautiful, sweet and talented little girl will be missed. Our hearts are broken. Hadleigh loved gymnastics and her SEE family. Tomorrow will be difficult for her gym family. We will have prayer for all who would like to attend Monday April 22 5:00 pm at the SEE Gymnastics Center . This is not goodbye. Hadleigh -little Sharky- will forever live in us. Videos of Hadleigh last weekend at State,” Hadleigh’s teacher wrote.
Following the sad incidents, many organisations and establishments have released formal statements which includes condolences messages to the families of the victims and the community at large. Hart Funeral Home wrote: “Our family and staff of Hart Funeral Home are deeply saddened by the losses of those in Waycross last night.”
“We join the rest of our community and neighboring communities praying for each of the families and many friends who are heartbroken today. We pray for strength and comfort in the midst of despair. And for each to find hope and healing that can only be found in Jesus.”
Waycross Police Department is investigating the incidents. More details will be released.
