Very sad news coming out of Castleisland this morning: Gerard Murphy, of Vincent Murphy Sports Shop, a shop known by many, has passed away.
Gerard was sports mad and a gentleman. Always generous with his time.
I loved Kerry football and the characters involved. He volunteered his time regularly.
It gave a lot to the town and all of its clubs. He will be sorely missed.
I spent a lot of time in that shop as a young lad. He’d always give me pins and badges when I called into the shop to say hello and call or text me about old Kerry jerseys.
Rest in peace, Gerdie. Condolences to his father, Vincent, and the rest of the family.
